Course Overview

This SafeWork NSW approved course assists a newly elected health and safety representative (HSR) to develop the relevant knowledge, skills & qualification needed to fulfil your role and functions under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and Regulations. 

The role of the Health and Safety Representative (HSR) is primarily to liaise with other staff to identify health and safety issues and convey these to management. HSRs are elected by fellow staff to represent the views of the work group. 


This course provides participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to fulfil their role as a Health and Safety Representative (HSR) in New South Wales. 


Balance Training & Assessments is a SafeWork NSW approved provider of this course (0799960), which is compliant under the Work Health and Safety Act 2017

  • Inspections, Notifiable Incidents, and Incident Investigation 
  • How HSRs can use their functions and powers to contribute to risk management activities in the workplace, 
  • P.I.N.’s and the right to cease, or direct the cessation of, unsafe work.

Prerequisites

  • To undertake the HSR 5 day, you will need to be: 
  • You will need to be elected as an HSR of a workgroup. 
  • To be a minimum of 18 years of age 
  • To understand and speak the English language at a level that enables the safe performance and understanding of Legislation and obligations. 
  • Generate a USI before your commencement of your course. 
  • To obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Please visit www.usi.gov.au and ensure you have at least one form of identification. 
  • To have a confirmation letter stating that you will be an elected Health and Safety Representative from your employer. 
  • A minimum of 6 people and maximum of 20 persons per course as a requirement per course for onsite courses. 

What do you need to bring?

  • You must supply identification which includes current photo identification, proof of NSW address, Signature & Date of Birth 
  • Wear comfortable, practical clothing and enclosed footwear. 
  • Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the commencement of training. 


What we provide:

  • For onsite training courses, we provide an approved trainer for the duration of the course, projectors, and laptop with power point presentation, speakers. 
  • All required stationary and a hard cover participant study guide/workbook for each student to keep including a web link to the full WHS Legislation 
  • Balance Training & Assessments Pty Ltd (RTO799960) is approved by SafeWork NSW to run this Course. 

Certification

This is a Safe Work NSW course so all participants deemed competent at the conclusion of the course will be provided with a Safe Work NSW Certificate 


Training Timetable 

5 days of training cannot be shorter. (This is a SafeWork NSW requirement) 


Face to face HSR training can be delivered in a variety of training days such as: 

5 days in one week 

1 day per week for 5 weeks 

2 days one week and 3 days later, at a time that suits you, usually within one-month period. 

Or any other combination that suits your workplace or staff rosters. 

The course duration is scheduled for 7 hours each day.

Delivery Options

This HSR course can be delivered in your workplace, or a training venue can be organised for you. 


A minimum of 6 participants is required for onsite and a maximum of 20 participants per group. 

If you have a group of participants, we will work with you regarding what time schedule that best suits your needs. 


The course must be completed within 6 months of commencement. 

Course costs

The cost of the 5-day HSR course is $695.00 per person, plus consideration must be taken into effect to book a venue for you, and trainer travel with accommodation additional if the courses are run in country areas if required.

Lead times

 As SafeWork NSW requires 10 days’ notice using their OLE online schedule service, to book a course for you, we need to gather all the information from you regarding number of people attending, their name, location of course etc.
